Who am I?

Soror Lux Vitae 1983 (Kirkcaldy)

Who am ‘I’?
‘I’ is not ‘me’
I is the person I wants you to see
‘I’ remains hidden, even from me.
Who is this person?
Can’t I be free?

Where am I?
Where do I reside?
The places I live, the places I hide?
Is ‘I’ just a creation inside my own mind?
A made up concept one can never find?

What am I?
What have I to gain?
Am I my thoughts?
My memories?
My collection of pains?

Am I the things I think each day?
The things I’ve done but cannot say?
Am I the person that I want to be?
Or just the persona you project onto me?

Am I my actions?
My body?
My soul?
Or am I just the observer of these things as they go?

Who perceives I from behind the thick veil?
Is I the observer or the real holy grail?

I remains hidden
Even from me
Who is this person?
Can’t I be free?

About this poem

My poem is exploring the concept of self beyond the body, the mind, the soul & the perceptions of others.
