The Raven

(THE RAVEN)
She is dark matter encased in flesh.
Not the false insecurities that
Discourage her flight.
Her bravery is the skyline...
Ebony wings painting the canvas of clouds.
The worries of earth are left within the soil,
Buried battle lines marred by war.
Secrets long-forgotten lay hidden
Within the skeletons of dead cities.
Gone are the coppices and fields of green...
Now she only dreams of the horizon,
Defiantly chasing It’s celestial glow.
Her elegant feathers ache silently,
Chinks in her armor that still bear
The wounds of a liar’s trust.
Promises neatly wrapped in briar thorns
Demanding blood for proxy.
She does not need them up here
She rejects them with a smile,
Pleased that her pain cannot fly.

About this poem

A short poem about how life can be a challenge, and the personal wars we wage mentality and physically. The risk we take to belong or escape, and the feeling of finding solace in facing our fears.
