Precious, Ugly Time

Precious, Ugly, Time

It’s free to give, though comes at a cost
Assured without it, all would be lost

Has no legs, but can stand still,
try to avoid it, you never will

We hope to acquire a great deal despite it
never being enough
When forced to give, proves mentally tough

You get to choose who, what or where, use it wisely, without despair
constantly going, it will never stop,
Waits for no one, but let’s you opt

Is it on your side or merely against you?
Solely depends on your point of view

It can be measured, known to fly,
It’s of the essence, relentlessly passing by

Difference in arriving early or late,
first or last in a competitive state

Memories resurfaced by a simple chat,
reminiscing “do you remember that…”?

Stamps all significant moments in life,
victories, joys, sadness or strife

There’s no way to turn it back,
Google can’t help nor even a hack

Doesn’t talk, but it will tell,
If you carried out your decisions well

If it could speak to you,
I’m sure it would advise all too

Make every second count,
leaving no stone left unturned,
when you run out

About this poem

Leading up to when I wrote this poem, every time I heard the word "Time" it was like a dear caught in headlights, hard to explain. One morning I was woken up way too early, not by choice and I was so annoyed at the time. I couldn't fall back asleep and the longer I laid there annoyed, the more I thought about Time and all its elements. I was then inspired to write about it.

Tammy Archer

I have lived in my county for most of my life. My husband and I have two teenage boys. We are all a huge fan of basketball. I also play other community sports. Last year I took up golfing. As frustrating as it is, I love it so much! We enjoy our cottage in the Bancroft area. I work as a Real Estate Agent. Outside of being forced to back in the days in primary and high school, I have never written anything in my life. Reading or writing has never been a hobby of mine. Those who know me were flabbergasted when I told them that I wrote a poem. I am still in shock. I hope I'm inspired again. This poem was effortlessly written. I have way more trouble writing a 3 sentence FB post. more…
