Out of the cage

Rebecca Yeo 2007 (Sydeny)

From within the enclosure they rage
Out of the fences, out of the cage
For in captivity they were born
Yet we feel the need to scorn
For wanting to explore we cannot blame
But rather we should cry in shame
Why is it that we decree?
We have denied their long for free

In the end, they returned
From this, their freedom burned
For in the humans, they have faith
Where it is sweet, where it is safe
Yet one still resists
He will not be another name on their lists
He wants to run, he wants to roam
For it is in the wild, he calls home

Yet they rage on, to crush the fun
They draw out their great big gun
He cowers in fear, he steps back
Then suddenly, it all turns black
