On a Friday

Lia Calancea 2003 (Chisinau)

On a Friday, I was crucified
By deciding to depart home
Now it’s Monday —  my soul’s breaking apart
I’m the scapegoat of sinful Salome.

On a Friday, Flagellation happened
But not on the place of the skull,
On my own tremendous ambitions,
On my desperate need for the sky.

On a Friday, I started to build,
The wings made of waxen desire,
On a Friday, I flew far away,
To be burnt alive by hellfire.

About this poem

This poem is about our own ambitions... ambitions to reach the sky, ambitions to become someone who we are not, ambitions to fly high... ambitions that can consume, burn, devour.
