Loneliness

I saw the total separation of my generation destroyed,
How I mourned disconnectedness.
Down, down, down into the darkness of the disconnectedness,
Gently they go - the entire, the unconditioned, the aggregate.

I saw the inner unhappiness of my generation destroyed,
How I mourned sadness.
Sadness is privileged. sadness is intimate,
sadness is intrinsical, however.

I saw the zany happiness of my generation destroyed,
How I mourned contentment.
Now cuckoo is just the thing,
It gets me wondering if contentment is clawlike.

About this poem

This poem is about loneliness. It is about how we can feel so alone, even when we are surrounded by people. It is about how, sometimes, the people who are closest to us can make us feel the most alone. It is about how, sometimes, we can feel like we are the only ones in the world who understand what it is like to be lonely.
