If I Have Ever

IF I HAVE EVER
If I have ever prayed, I asked not for the world’s pleasures,
But for title of celebrity crowned upon the skulls of my desperate ink.
If I have ever asked, I sought not for the money’s treasures,
But for the gift of God to paint the stories of my abolished fathers.
I wish to live after long I leave, within the pages of the library sleeves.
Mere existence is not for me, I have a dream, to breathe as Shakespeare, that worthy script.
I’ve married my scribbles, so worry me not to have children,
I shall journey the seven seas, seven hills, and seven mountains,
To secure the craft, to write the draft of my most loving art.
For what else matters to a man, apart from that that alives his heart?
In my alcove, they stare as a heavy man, my living words rot,
A dream is not enough; risk the unseen eyes to see; unheard ears to hear
Alas brethren, may we meet peace on these very streets of immortal dreams
Aye, aye, we shall dream, for without dreams who do we be?
