Kristie Oneal 1981 (United states)

I am no longer afraid of life, or who I am.
I am no longer afraid to walk alone or take a stand.
I am no longer controlled by fear’s or regret.
I will no longer live with the nightmare, but I will never forget….
I no longer live in a place of pain anymore.
I will no longer stay hidden behind that closed door….
I will open that door, and instead I will rise.
I will awaken the truth that has hidden in the lies.
What once was darkness, unfolding in front of me…
Is now the sun on the horizon…. I am free

About this poem

I wrote this poem coming out an abusive relationship. I felt imprisoned by the injury I sustained. I felt alone most of the time after… until little by little I began to free myself from victim to survivor .
