Winter Holidays

Jaelynn Hirrill 2010 (Albuquerque New Mexico)

Winter Holidays

Winter is supposed to be,
The best time of the year.
It’s supposed to be about giving,
And spreading holiday cheer.

Jewish celebrate Hanukkah,
For Muslims and Buddhist, it’s Kwanzaa.
Christians celebrate Christmas,
But to me, to be honest, it’s all about forgiveness.

It's all about happiness,
And snowballs and snowflakes.
With a cup of Apple Cider and the fireplace on,
It’s about shopping and music and a movie marathon.

Occurring just before each New Year,
The one thing that's clear,
Hot cocoa and Eggnog are required
During this time of year.

The truth is, Winter is about all these things,
But above all, it's about family.

Happy Holidays!

Jaelynn Hirrill

My name is Jaelynn but my family still calls me my childhood nickname, JP. I was 10 years old and had to write a poem for my 5th grade Honors English class. I am very antipodal and, as I was born on Earth Day in 2010, I love all of Nature and the beauty you can see all around you. I also love astrology and Space, including everything in-between. more…
