November Dreams

November dreams, November dreams,
Of golden leaves and meadowlarks,
Of forests that with life do teem
I stray into the autumn dark.

Fare thee well, O summer’s heat,
Thou must away, my soul shall meet
The merry birds of autumn’s strain,
The falling leaves, the blessed rain.

With autumn’s grace now here at hand
I look out at these summer lands
I see what was now pass away
Once upon a summer’s day.

The oaken leaves turn shades of gold
With summer gone, now comes the cold
A herald of winter’s frosty bite
As snow falls in the autumn night.

I hear the singing passerines
Ushering in the change of times;
Golden are the blessed boughs
Of oaks and maples all around.

November dreams, November dreams,
How fair they are and dear to me;
Of apple trees and sycamores
Of autumn leaves upon my door.

Though colder days may lie ahead
When November fades away
Fall is here in Summer’s stead
Till Winter comes our way.

About this poem

I wrote this poem because the all the seasons fascinate me, but the type of beauty that is seen in fall enchants me in a special way. Therefore, I decided to put my feelings about the beauty of fall into words.
