Electrify

There's a phantom pain in my chest
Every time I look at you
I feel each pulse of unrest
The running blood in my veins so blue

The feeling is beautifully aged like fine wine
And yet somehow still surprising
Because I knew the strokes of the fine line
Between loud distaste and silent yearning

On most days it's easy to bear
Quick to hide the evidence of  a crime
On other days, I'm worse for wear
Unable to keep track of the time

Before the clock strikes and I am caught
With vestiges of a smile in the corner of my lips
For the humor and snarkiness, you brought
Such fleeting emotions before my heart rips

But if I am being entirely honest
To myself, to you, and to the omniscient galaxy
Not much is really left unpromised
No, lies, no pain, no false ecstasy

None that could hurt me more
Than fine wine unsurprising
Shock the veins of my very core
Until I disintegrate like a galaxy exploding

Maybe then the lines wouldn't be a blur
Perhaps then we'll both see it as it is
Not as flattery or a drunken slur
But something nobody can miss

An understanding of the timeless kind
That heeds neither alarm nor deadline
Something secretive, nowhere to find
Incredibly phantom, like it's only mine
