Musings

Patricia Joyce Covel 1960 (Massachusetts)

A fly buzzed upon the windowpane
Gleefully mocking her incarceration
Repeatedly banging, searching for a way out
But finding none. Longing to soar through the sky
Free from chains and history
Determined frustration she watches it mock her life goals.
Bang, Bang, Bang
Exhaustion
But sleep does not come
Gnawing thoughts of days past race and torture
Regrets of life choices unraveling before her
Depression surrounds her and sinks her deeper in despair
As her feet pace the well-worn floors while her heart longs for her beloved
Only he has the power to pull her from the depths of wretchedness
But his love is fleeting and few as others pull him to them
She tries to adjust the wrinkled bedsheets of her life but there is no structure
Only one day flowing into another in endless waves of emotions
Battering her soul into submission like an angry storm against the cliffs
Bang bang bang
The fly buzzes on the window pane
Looking to escape its imprisonment when life is just a pane of glass away.
