Not Meant for this World

A playful snout where a bill was
Ears where graceful wings should be
Fur-like white down feathers
Goosey boy, Bilo, now above
Flying south for the winter
Maybe home when spring returns
Or somewhere in the stars, remaining
Perhaps he’ll come to meet us
But he’d probably blow our minds
You’re a star now,
Bowie

Where you once played
Now an ocean of sorrow
In the wake of your taking flight
Where to? I’ll always wonder
Chasing stars in my dreams
You’ll forever be
The little dog entrusted to us
Now only a happy memory

About this poem

I wrote this in the wake of losing my dog, Bowie. He always kind of reminded me of a goose, and as for the other reference, “Bilo,” was to the movie “Borat.” Sort of a nick-name for when he had to be placed in his kennel. Also, I wanted to play into his namesake, a reference to the Star-Man himself David Bowie.
