No Justice, No Peace

Austin Verhasselt 1986 (North Dakota)

No justice, no peace. Black lives matter and I can't breathe. These are the mantras we say in our sleep; along with I pray the Lord my soul to keep. How could one man dying bring a nation to the streets? We keep waiting on leaders in positions of power. But all they do is Tweet from their ivory towers.

Somewhere along the way our lives became expendable. When growing up we were taught, every life is incredible. No justice, no peace. Black lives matter and I can't breathe. These are the mantras we say in our sleep, right before I pray the Lord my soul to keep. Since when is it sanctioned, in a land were we're free, to shoot a complete stranger jogging down the street? And take a shopper's life for using fake currency?

George Floyd and Ahmaud, Breonna and Trayvon. How many more have to go before we get our game on? All of these angels are legends and wrapped in God's glory. generations to come will be telling their stories.

Heavenly father we ask you today, show us your love and show us your way. Forgive us we pray and hasten the day when peace and tranquility are all that we see. Color or culture, country or religion. They don't have to be obstacles if we all decide to listen. Understanding and healing come with open dialogue. But for change to take place, it can't be a monologue. Bro, you and me we're in this together. The hearts of the fallen will help us remember. God will unite us of this I am certain. But not until we let him pull back the curtain.
