A Bolton Translation of One Night by C.P. Cavafy

The home was scanty and cold,
Locked away underground the criminal club,
Starting with holes, they’re noticeable from alleyways,
It's disgusting and slender. But beneath
Found the calling of those in labour
Entertained by paper, encountered by joy.

There appears on the ordinary and precious bed
I'm gifted with the figure of passion, I grasp their cheeks,
The erotic and crimson colour of addiction -
The bottle has such temptation, that.
Once I scribe, ending countless months!,
In the reclusive chamber, I’m wasted once more.

William Renshaw

William Renshaw born on the 25th May 2004 is a British poet coming from Newport, Wales. He is an honours student at the University of Bolton studying BA English. Growing up in a family of retail labourers and engineers, He hasn't particularly made a stand in the professional world of poetry until now working toward publishing his first 2 collections, 'Thoughts Expand' and 'The Theory of Love.' Living in the Greater Manchester area and also residing in Blackpool from 8 to 18, he has grapsed a rich culture for the North West of England. His poetry work usually features an abundance of mellow topics including death, suicide and a pessimistic decline of the modern world. More recently, William has began writing romantic poems for his lover and ones that any person can involve themselves within. We know he got a fair amount of inspiration for his poems from his A level Sixth Form tutors Natalie Collister and Rebecca Bain. He also received a fair amount of inspiration and guidance from his late Great Grandmother, Evelyn Haslam who passed away in 2018. Eldest son of Alexandra Renshaw (1983-pre) and Lee Renshaw (1978-pre). He has 1 brother, Thomas Renshaw (2006-pre) and a sister, Victoria Renshaw (2012-pre). more…
