Pandemic of Newspeak

Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)

Modern pandemic:
Culture-war narrative memes.
Like ‘Transgender Rights.’
‘Critical Race Theory.’
Spawned by Social Media.

About this poem

READERS BEWARE: Our modern and most virulent pandemic spreading rapidly among us, is that of the subtle fictional language of ‘Twenty First Century Newspeak,’ spawned by the network of social media that is ever enticing us into its spider’s web. The entrapment goal: legitimization and elevation of ‘Newspeak’ by demeaning and replacement of ‘Oldspeak.’ With such newly formed memes of expression as “fake news” and “alternative realities,” it becomes increasingly a trepidation to negotiate the minefields of linguistic etiquette and social communication without becoming a casualty of the slings and arrows of social media.

Spot on poetry here indicative of a current atmosphere seeking to direct people into a self-degrading direction. "Social media" is such a contradictory phrase. We've become less social than ever. People need to turn those door knobs and get some sunlight, air and intermingling.
