Today

Darryn Scott 1972 (Adelaide)

Today is really, the only day we get,
Yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn’t here yet,
If you can live in the present, your life will lift,
And this is the reason that your life is a gift.

When you are aware of what is happening right now,
You don’t have to know, of the how,
Because when you’re in the moment, things just happen,
You can then be clear and have a natural reaction.

Be awake to events occurring, as they do,
Open and accepting for what’s there for you,
For when you’re not present you might miss something,
That is offered to you, that could elevate everything.

We are only here for a short while,
So be open to the now with a smile,
This might help you quiet the worry,
And be in much less of a hurry.

If you can just slow down and concentrate on this moment,
You might just get a glimpse of how potent,
This life we are all given is not a decoy,
It is actually here for us to enjoy.

So, slap your face or pinch yourself if you must,
Wake up to this time and really trust,
That we are here right now, on this day,
There is only one present, the gift of today.

About this poem

We are always worried about what happened yesterday or what will happen tomorrow when, really, there is only today, this moment, now.
