By My Side, Always

Free verse
He held his hand out to me
As he waited by my side
My beloved, my always constant
Waiting to be my guide

Surrounded by my family
I know it is time to leave
70 years of service to my country
Much that I have achieved

My legacy, my memories
Will live on in Britain's hearts
But now I hear him whisper
My Queen, we are no longer apart

It is time to hand my crown down
My work here now is done
I'm at peace and can rest my soul
As I hand the monarchy to my son

The light is growing stronger
Phillip smiles as we prepare to go
He puts his arm around me
Come Lilibet, let's go home
