The Cry of an Orphan
As the fog fills the air that the sunlight once danced in,
So do my tears blur the good I have once seen,
The will to live begins to leave, and slowly the only song I know is that we grieve,
Children with once a home, now forced to grow, in a world that from now feels strange we roam,
Oh death you have hurt me!
To what am I to hold on to?, to whom am I to confide in?
Yesterday I sang, 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star', today I weep to the sweet sound of my gone Mother's tone, 'Que Sera Sera'.
Not long a time we danced and smiled as they moved our hair between the comb,
This moment! Oh this moment, we pray and cry at the tomb.
Oh death you have hurt me!
Endless Sleepless nights, a wish or a maybe 'They will come back,
Pressures of the world, I now have to unpack,
The young I knew to be; the good I learnt to see; the prayer I was taught to say,
It makes sense now, perhaps they knew?!
Oh death you have made me strong!
The fear I had has left me, brave and strong is what describes thee.
I, the child that has faced loss, will walk the earth with full a cause,
As I go forth, my soul remembers I have two Guardian Angels and an Army they lead.
My heart begins to heal and find a will to live, to fix the pain I once hid.
Oh death you have built me!
About this poem
As an orphaned child. It's been the hardest thing for me. I have always found peace in writing and expressing through poetry. I know there are many out there that need to read the piece and know that they are not alone. When we lose our loved ones, it breaks us. Being the first born having to look after my siblings at such a young age. I have learnt, death is painful, but believe; God cannot give you something you cannot handle. Grieve, but do not let the tears stop you from seeing beyond the stars. They are now your Guardian Angels leading your army of Angels♡ more »
