SONG OF THE BIRDS

Song of the Birds

The Birds hum in melody
The rhythm of unity
It sounds so melancholic
Doomed to be catastrophic

Oh! My comrades
See the signal waving at the skies
The green and white mantra of the birds
The strong breeze swiftly strides
And each comrade sing the song of the birds of the skies

The birds refrain in unity
The union of solidarity
Besieged at sovereignty
Encaged in the demeanor of self-pity
Now free from the colonial city
Yet the guns of state could not stop their treaty
Resounding the sound of unity

Arise! O' compatriots
The masses are woken
The encirclement is broken
We are free yet again
To fly the flags of our fathers token
The gift in me and you

This unity oh I so love
To see the Aliens speak the masses' tongue
The birds join the comrades in harmony
All to sing our fatherland's Symphony

Nigerians!
Yes we call to obey
To serve and not to be served we say
With love and not with lust
And strength and faith not hate
The laborers strife
The bloody marathon of gun powder
The banned Atlantic merchants
The dirge of our mother by the "Iroko"
Of which to this day remains scanty on our lips
All should not go in vain - dismay

The Lions, Elephants, Foxes, and Zebras
All join to sing the bird's song
But the catastrophe remains
Not all can sing

The song is fading
The lyrics are disperse
To all, it is disgracing
But the birds find it rejuvenating

Don't exile me for I can sing
Hum the stratified bird  in brevity
Send me not out that I bring
The National spirit and wing
If my Negro voice is weak
Then let me use
My buzzing hips' insincerity
To the blooming doom of the song
I bear on my lips

If I forget then let my eyes
Shudder for the colour
I bear on my skin
When it fades
I will renew the lyrics
Draw a new scene
Turbulent waves
The song will calm the tune

The Forest Sage is woke
And he says do it in diversity
So they sing in unison
Unity in diversity
The song of the birds
Echoing in the skies.

About this poem

"Song of the Birds" is a poem dedicated to any country that gained it's independence through tough labour and currently reigning as a sovereign entity. I wrote this poem specifically for my Country "Nigeria" because of the labours of our heroes' past that hasn't gone in vain. However, the poem also defines the freedom of citizens with the metaphorical bird who sings for unity with other animals. The main theme of this poem is Unity in Diversity.
