Her Temple

Ancestor Young 1999 (Bloemfontien)

She walks with the generations in her overies
Carrying the weight that men will never know the heaviness of
With a silent cry she bleeds
Blood sliding down her legs faster than her tears
No one but another woman will ever know the pain she feels
 she insists that she's fine
Never taking the time to realize detriment of what she's said
Paracetamol tablets swallowed to mellow the anguish
This weight she carries weighs heavy on her head
The cradling of her abdomen, as life she treasures drips red on her skin slowly faded
She's pure as a saint but they say this is the punish she must endure for her non-existent sin
"Mosadi o tswara thipa ka bohaleng"
And the cuts run deeper than roots
Her womb starts to quake
No water breaks
She hides herself under stained covers
Huddling , and bracing for the earthquake that leaves nothing but pain
"This is the price you pay"
"For this temple you call your body,it houses your soul , but you have no control of the renovations it makes"
Endomitriosis took her smile
Now she walks in beauty like the night
Gliding over the sunset
Crawling slowly to embrace the earth in a starry blanket
Exposing all that the light has hidden
Amaroutic wonderer captured in the capricious moment of longing
Longing for something she's never had
Line by line
Row by row
Sterling silver blade dancing on red paint
Fleshy canvas on skeleton frames
The artistry and violin gentleness of the anguish veiled her like a bride
She is a work of art you see
And her body is the temple
And She is the God it was built for

About this poem

It's a piece I wrote shortly after being diagnosed with Endometriosis. A disease that greatly affects my reproductive health. I wrote this hoping other women with the same condition don't feel alone and can relate
