Hanger's Ultimatum
They weren’t drunk or doing drugs
In lust lasting mistakes
with tremors of
a new beginning; forced three,
two, not even out of school
one to soon begin.
They sadly garner loving life:
Harbor the bittersweet suffering
of unprepared joy
and unwanted gifts
and feigned glee.
They cannot pay utilities
food, or any luxuries
Cannot yet drive and cannot stop
The end of all they want.
Their baby shower
Is the wake
Of who they used to be.
If the two had broke the rule
To save their lives in sin
The method works, many have tried
But without help
they all have died
writhing in pain
and lost the baby too.
But If this mother did not oblige
and had survived
They might have had
just enough time
to buy their child a crib.
You claim to save life, but
do nothing more
than prevent those in need
from living
For the sake of what could be.
Save what we have now,
or you will lose our potential too.
About this poem
Due to recent events, much discussion has been brought up surrounding abortion. This is the best way that I could express my standpoint, which I think could be concluded as two things: I think that many who want to ban abortion believe they are saving a life. I feel they are actually saving the potential of a life, while simultaneously ending the potential of the life (or lives) of the ones requesting the procedure. I see this as immoral. I also believe that the prevention of access to a safe and clinical procedure will cause many desperate people to seek potentially lethal home methods as seen now and in the past. more »
