Half Past Twelve

It’s half past 12,
an eerie silence,

far too quiet down here,
But for a familiar echo within

through the cages of my ribs,
it thunders on my heart,
clutches my veins

it’s just pain. pain. pain.

not a spec of light,
too dark down here

can see an image,
a flash before my eyes

stuck in a time frame,
movie that has no end

it’s just pain pain pain.

surface not far from here,
extend my hand, could almost reach

someone’s calling out to me
here, I scream-scream and scream

(pause)
suddenly-the clock rewinds,

the movie starts,
it’s an eerie silence

the surface far from here
it’s too dark down here

Oh.
it's half past 12, again.

About this poem

It’s about going through the same place again; the same emotions. The hopelessness and pain of not being able to get yourself out of that state of mind. When you try to convince yourself it’s okay, the clock goes backwards and you are back to that same feeling again.
