Hair

I wish my hair was long
Just like my mom
So l could run my finger through their length
Only to discover hidden treasures
A yellow leaf with a red cross
Hiding behind tangled knots
I wish I could challenge the wind
To breathe through my locks
And make them soar
Like dreams woven around my head
Gentle waves, dipped in inky blackness
Cascading down to my waist
I wish I could will them to fly
I wish I could lay my head on this black pillow
Let the strands tickle my nose
And then place them gently behind my ear
With hands as graceful as yours.
I wish I could make womanly bun
And sigh that womanly sigh when it falls open again.
I wish I had long hair as you mom
So that I could chop them all off when I wanted to
And become your little girl again.
