The Heavens and Earth Proclaim

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Can rain fall from the bluest sky;
Through sunshine without clouds?
Do oxen watch from fields of grain;
As farmers pull their plows?

And yet my people walk away
And leave their only hope!
They’re exchanging all their glory
For the gallows and some rope!

The only One True Living God
For statues and the Pope!
Religion is on what they hang
Like junkies with their dope!
