Masks

NKay Byrd 1950 (Albion, MI)

Mask

Regiments of calendar days passes by
in daily repetition

Dawn spawns
morning time
coffee time
sipping in front of window

Lockdown
peer outside time
pierce isolation time
quiet time

Where are the people?
They’re gone
Mark

About this poem

Over the course of the COVID pandemic have arisen pro vs con of wearing a mask for staying safe amidst people. One cold morning I was indoors looking outside my 2nd floor window when I caught sight of a mask blown by the wind and being snared by tree branches. I took a photograph. Plus, in 2021 and in 2022 I had been taken photos of masks laying around on the ground or hung to drying out. On the news people rebelled against the mandate to wear masks. Here’s my poem about experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic.
