Shades of Ruin

Judy Lowery 1969 (Ohio)

The shadows are moving in now, misty hands grasping hungrily. Where once I had stood strong, I am weakening. The thought of their embrace almost inviting.

The strength of keeping them at bay has diminished, they know and are slipping between the cracks. Smoky denizens appearing closer, a mere breath away.

It would be so easy to sit, let them cloak me in their darkness. The cold, numbing all thought and feeling from my war torn body and mind.

A welcome distraction from the raging thoughts consuming my waking moments and dreams. So easy to just give in, to be free of the ties binding me to this realm.

One cut…to break free of the ties to sit here and let the shades have their just reward. How comforting to lay my head down and not worry about lifting it again.
