Worth

Amelia Purdy 1979 (Florida)

I say I am sorry
but I don't know what I'm sorry for.
The last time you looked at me
I felt topless and wrong
because some kind of insult
fell from your lips
and my worth shattered
as you threw me.

Now I'm not the sorry one.
My clothes are pinned
my worth is made new.
He kisses me in the darkness
and holds me as I cry.
He touches the scars
that you put there
and he says I am perfect.
