In my pocket

Hasan Johnson 1980 (Peoria Illinois)

I got a pocket with hole in it
It won’t save no money
Everywhere I go they laugh at me because I’m poor it’s funny
I’m a woman’s last choice
She’d rather deal with a man that she knows the relationship will end in divorce
Than to deal with me
Because my empty pocket doesn’t provide security
Credit card denied
Long welfare lines
Section eight housing
Food stamps applied
But it’s a hole in my pocket
I wear the same clothes every day
I work hard to have nothing
Instead of calling it work
I should call it play
It’s a hole in my pocket
And it’s a shame
This hole won’t save a thing
At least there’s no lint
That pocket won’t even keep up with the receipts from where the money’s being spent
Tithes and offering don’t help it
Tips and wages can’t save it
I got a hole in my pocket that make enough noise to wake the neighbors
Keep the change
Help it grow
Gotta invest in another pair of pants that’s altogether whole
