The Arrogance of Youth

There is an arrogance of youth!
A fearless decadence which knows no failure,
seeks no compromise, and blithely walks the cliffs edge,
relying on confidences last fleeting victories
and the angels of the fates.
The Tarot’s Fool.
There is no cringing from the world behind drawn shades,
nor cause to re-fire smoldering angers and resentments long held.
Elders disdainfully look down their noses,
wrinkled brows failing to recognize
that dimmed or dying spark in themselves
that burns with delirious passion in those that will all too soon learn their so-called, realities of life.
I say this arrogance of youth is a prize.
A brilliant falling star? May be.
But nothing lasts forever save the spirit,
so capture that spirit, and before that star trails out —
make a wish.

About this poem

A lesson in perspective, seeing things in a different way. Life can beat you down and we must remember that piece of us, that fire inside that needs to be stoked with pure faith.
