One Size Fits All

A lion runs at me
Its teeth grow large as it fits its head around mine,
Incubating the fragile thing, my braids hang out like a mustache

I want to build a picket fence
around this sound
And keep it caged
Wait thousands of years
Until the feral thing goes domestic,
Sings instead of squeals

About this poem

I’ve been considering my own domestication. We have evolved to behave and to value rules: fences, places to call our own, material transformation. What would going feral look like for someone like me? Can we go feral and still remain within society?
