Stonewall Street

That morning on Stonewall Street
I can't forget, it sank so deep
From everywhere the fog did seep
The halos made the streetlamps weep

Quieter than a church it seemed
Like something found in a dream
No place to go, we walked along
Our footsteps echoed their own song

An old mystery, I might have known
Came to mind as we walked along
Converted gas lights, cobblestones
Now in a time they did not belong

Many times we've sung the song
Now it seems the words are wrong
How much pain has this street known
Heartaches, sorrow, sadness grown

Do you mind if I repeat
On some day should we meet
On the edge where some don't weep
In the shadows of Stonewall Street

About this poem

Sometimes one wants to revisit places that draw us back to another time. But life is a one-way street.
