Wounded

Makaila K 2007 (United States)

Wounded on the outside
Tears rolling down my face
Easier to hide

Awake to start my day
Trying to distract
The thoughts from the inside

An event runs through the mind
"What ifs' take control
The tears begin to roll

Reluctant to sleep
No way to distract
The nightmares that will haunt

The nightmares are the worse
Repeating each night
With a different ending, always in sight

Those "what ifs" become real
Then relive it when awake
Endless cycle it truly is

But wounded on the outside
So it's easier to hide
Those tears coming from thoughts...

Always on the inside.
