Conversational Funeral

A long silence, an awkward stare,
A shifting glance, my expression bare.
Shuffling my papers, scribbling an answer
Small talk ensues, but no openings to banter.
The silence was deafening, my mind grasping for a topic
The others’ mind racing, each brain a brick
Is our friendship strained, our effort lacking?
Or the inexperience in interaction, our social skills lagging?
