Within the Wake of Nightly Minds Abstract
Within the wake of nightly minds abstract
there forms a cloud; such gentle wisps of love.
They wait with such patience, yet to attract
and float along, alone, and breathe above.
Such paint that moves, the brush the brain controls,
proceeds to join two artists unseeing;
a pair amongst countless and bondless souls,
no doubt their blue hearts will be agreeing.
Adjoined across the canvas they journey,
the colors, they follow, they bloom, and blend.
Beauty though present, fades – is soon blurry,
conscience comes to, as things started, they end.
But all’s not lost, a time that’s true may come,
whereof the two connect, no longer numb.
About this poem
This sonnet describes a dream in which two people, who happen to be rather lonely, meet and fall in love. Because dreams have always been rather abstract to me, I decided to use an extended metaphor to relate it to an abstract painting. As the dream progresses, the two people begin to wake up, but I chose to end it on a more positive note by foreshadowing that they may meet each other in real life and fall in love again.
