Utah

Smack against the rock.  Don’t
ignore the gravity holding you high, a stylite on martian
red rock.  A god to see or be.

I would take flight
and descend.  Not rushing through the empty space,
but pulled in steps back to the dusty earth
to rest in the wash with cool stones.

About this poem

The heights and colors of southern Utah have been stuck in my mind lately.
