Thin Enough

A beautiful girl, but just a little overweight
People called her names, so nothing is what she ate.
She felt so alone; she didn’t know what to do.
She just wanted to be thin, like the other girls she knew.
She was hungry all the time, but still refused to eat.
Her skin was pale, and her body so weak.
In the corner of the room, is where the scale sat.
It may have showed progress, but still she felt fat.
She was losing herself, little by little.
She always felt cold and her bones became brittle.
Food was the enemy; she drilled that in her head.
She felt if she weren’t thin, she’d rather just be dead.
The perfect body and the perfect size,
All she wanted was not to be criticized.
Three years later, and only ninety-five pounds,
I guess the girl she wanted, she still hadn’t found
The day that she died, everyone came,
Shaking their heads and taking the blame.
As they closed the casket, they sat and wondered why.
Being thin was so important.
Important enough to die.
