Culture(Paradise)Lost

gregg connolly 1956 (pennsylvania)

April 22

Culture(Paradise) Lost
ditheree-doo and ditheree-dop
sitting in my car at a stop
boom-boom bam, boom-boom-bop

a coupla a white boys flopping at hip-hop
idiots caps turned, doing the gangsta lean
trying to look cool, trying to look mean'
Lost their way, lost their own feng shui
you can't be a brother, with the wrong mother

Lost their culture, lost their class
acting out another's, looking like an ass
truth be told, your culture has grown old
you lost your mojo, you sold your soul

too lazy to reinvent the culture you say you crave
it is you hip-hop boy who put it in the grave
too late now you know not what you want
so you latch onto others, a convenient shunt

blame not others for your profligate ways
you and your friends are in a daze
you have lost your spirit, and have become a shell
you are living a subsistence, you are living in hell
it was you who intoned the proclaiming bell
and it rings your own suicidal death knell
