Spoiled

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Soiled and spoiled from birth by beliefs,
We deserve entitlements.
Whether earned to receive.
Or given to demand.
As is documented in a democracy.
To expect a feeding,
Our every wish and impulsive need.

Spoiled until soiled,
Becomes our choices made...
From a variety to pick and choose,
To please and get to interpret...
A democracy to delude and fiction,
The meaning meant of it...
That excludes the truth to include deception.

With a doing to expect this too represents,
A normal way of life to live and accept...
Those who speak of greatness to achieve,
Are more loyal and patriotic.
Than the ones intentionally not mentioned.
Throughout history to have it perceived,
Others depicted as 'them and they'...
Have come to steal, change and take away,
An image that betrays...
Spoiled beliefs taught to teach,
A portrayal to fiction...
Truth as is.
And the reality of it to face the cause,
Of division, racism and fraud endorsed!

'I have often wondered...
If one apple is known to spoil,
The entire orchard.
And supported and allowed to do it.
What should anyone expect to happen next?
When all fruits of a crop has been ruined?'

That depends!

'On what?'

Perception.
And...
If that ruining also includes vegetables.
And if people can adjust,
To eating their salad without apples.
Without them to miss.
What's the big deal?
It's all going to come out as digested.

'Where and what has happened to logic?
Who...
Tell me who can be accused,
Of killing common sense?'

Logic?
Common sense?
These days?
More people seem to be dieting on nuts.
Berries and stuff like that.
And not analogies to associate,
With the using of a thought process.

'A mind to once have,
Is a terrible thing to waste.
And these days it is normal,
Not to think at all.'

Only if the using of a mind is missed.
And besides,
If a forest can not be seen...
Because of the trees?
How many people do you think will agree,
One tree that dies may kill the forest?

'That's too deep.
Too below the surface.'

I have been told,
I should stop denying I need a therapist.
And guess who told me that?

'Who?'

A psychiatrist I met at a grocery store.
Attempting to convince me,
There is a difference between...
The taste and varieties of tomatoes.
I told him I could care less.
Then...
Suggested, he did,
That I make an appointment.
With a therapist he sees.
And recommends highly.

'So...
What did you do?'

Paid for what I bought and left the store.
