If No One Ever Chased a Dream

IF NO ONE EVER CHASED A DREAM
by
Bobby Lynn Long

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW LIFE MIGHT BE‐
IF NO ONE IN THIS WORLD EVER DREAMED OF BEING FREE‐
AND IF NO ONE EVER GAZED UP INTO THE SKY‐
AND DREAMED OF WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO FLY‐

OR SAW FLOWERS GROWING IN SOME PLACE ALONE‐
AND DREAMED OF THEM GROWING IN A GARDEN AT THEIR HOME‐
IF WHILE DREAMING OF A FRIEND, WHO IS FAR,
FAR AWAY‐
NO ONE DREAMED OF BEING ABLE TO SPEAK TO THEM TODAY‐

AND WHILE WATCHING TV, WHAT IF NO ONE DREAMED‐
OF PICTURES AND OF SOUND, UPON SOME INDOOR SCREEN‐
AND NO ONE DREAMED OF LIGHTS WHEN THE EVENING SUN WENT DOWN‐
OR AUTOMOBILES THAT COULD TAKE YOU, BACK AND FORTH TO TOWN‐

AND GOING TO THE MOON, WHY, IF NO ONE DREAMED OF THAT‐
SUCH IS ONLY FOR LOVERS TO ENJOY, AS THEY SIT AND SMILE, AND LAUGH‐

AND NO ONE DREAMED OF BOOKS OR
MUSIC THE EAR COULD HEAR‐
AND NO ONE DREAMED OF ADVENTURE, AND NO ONE DREAMED OF FEAR‐

IF NO ONE EVER CHASED A DREAM, HERE IN THIS WORLD BELOW‐
I FEEL IT WOULD NOT BE AS NICE A PLACE, AND I WOULD NOT WANT TO GO‐

I’D RATHER BE WHERE DREAMS RUN FREE, AND RAINBOWS LIVE AND SHINE‐
SO, SMILE AND ,YOU GO CHASE YOUR DREAMS, AND I TO, SHALL GO CHASE MINE
