WARRIORS

And finally the curtains opened
I knew then there was no turning back
I was taught not to be weak,
For "people like us" weakness is not an option,
so I was shown

They call it survival of the fittest, kill or be killed
The strong prey on the weak
That much I have seen
"For people like us"
to survive is to be strong

Born to draw swords, Raised to live them
Maybe we will eventually die by them, who knows?
Forged by iron and granite
Dressed in armor of brass
And ordained to slay giants

Could it have been fore-written by the stars from a thousand lifetimes!
Perhaps so;
Tales have been told of warriors who slumbered not

Those who rode on horses with shields of glory
Girded with loins of honor
And breastplates of truth
Those who wore helmets of Wisdom
And carried swords that slayed to resurrect

Who are we, you ask?
That which we are, we are

About this poem

I wrote this poem at a moment when i felt at my lowest. I was overwhelmed by different emotions and wondered why it seemed like for as long as i could remember, i always had to fight. I guess I'd say, i wrote it to comfort and motivate myself to keep going and embrace that it's ok to be a fighter.
