Unrest

The distance is crushing
Misleading my thoughts
Consuming the space inside my head
The overwhelming pressure
Pushing further and further
Until I am lost

My heart weeps
Longing for it’s other half
Engrossed in emotions
Only some recognizable
But predominantly unknown and foreign
Unattainable understanding

Fear creeps in
Filling the cracks
Mutating my fervor
With its own piety
Turning it into something
I no longer understand

Passion engulfs my soul
With an unfamiliar earnestness
Provoking my every move
Mind, body, heart
Blinding my clarity
Inciting chaos

A sea of emotions
Washing over me
Robbing me of breath
Drowning in its tide
Unable to keep my head above the crest
I sink into the abyss

Darkness encompasses
Suffocating
Dragging me down
Not knowing how far I sink
Until I touch the bottom
Unable to see the surface


Unrest relentlessly immerses
Unable to see, hear, or even think
I close my eyes and breathe
With each breath I attain relief
Again I breathe
Allowing myself reprieve

I open my eyes
A surge of light reaches my soul
A truce within myself
Cessation of my sorrow
Release from restraint
I am exonerated
