To The Drinker

To the drinker
Who each night
Seeks to lose
Inhibitions
And feel a oneness
With all around

Or perhaps
The court of rage
Will have its say
Your ability
To control the spheres
Released
For the sake
Of freedom

To drop the reins
Lean back your head
And howl to the moon
Freed from the chains
That keep us tame

I, too, am an alcoholic
Fifteen years sober
The days of seeking
Love
Now, a waking dream
So that, in sobriety
I am One with all

One with you
And your helplessness
Your loneliness
Your quest for something more

It is there within you
A part of us
Sober and full
Nature, the perfected
Dream
Of unity
Telling each
That water
Is all we need
To subsist
And grow

Come into me
Let us embrace
And feel as One
Without the need
For embellishments
For your disease
Is my own
And my sobriety
Belongs to you.
