Just an Old Pocket Knife

Allen W. Watkins 1934 (Kansas)

Just an Old Pocket Knife

My Old Timer has lost its form
Its blades are loose and badly worn
For many years it’s been with me
A faithful tool I must agree

Placed the old one away from view
And I bought another one new
So bright and shiny in my hand
My feelings should have been so grand

Then I remember I’m old and worn
Like my Old Timer that’s lost its form
I put the new one away you see
My old Old Timer I carry with me

About this poem

This poem is a slice of my life. I bought a new knife to replace my old worn one, but found I could not put my old friend away.

Allen W. Watkins

Worked all my life to support family and when I retired I needed something to do with my time. I wrote stories and poems. If no one ever reads a line it's all the same to me. I never write to please the lot, writing pleasures only me more…
