Significance

Why pray?
And to what degree,
Is one's kept significance to keep...
In the power of prayer.
If one's faith said to have...
With a steadfast belief.
Remains to fear,
Threats heard to hear them.
As if to seek fear sought.
To identify it more.
Than one's faith claimed to be,
Stronger kept.
Yet goes ignored.

Why pray?
And to what degree,
Will one go to impress this to confess?
In one breath to express,
Of having a faith kept to address a belief.
To then share their fears of what they hear.
Without living their lives.
Claiming to know from experience,
God is near to protect them...
From threats they choose to expect.
As if living to identify,
Where they are to describe.
And recognized to accept,
How effective living to fear can be.

'You say you are of faith?'

'Yes! Most definitely.'

'And you pray, you say, everyday?'

'Of course.'

'I don't intend to be all up in your business.
However...
For what do you pray?
And...
To who?'

'What a silly question.
I pray to have my bills paid.
Impressions to make.
And pretensions to keep.
For what other reason would anyone pray?'

'Today?
You may be right.
Afterall...
What other priorities,
Should people live to have?
With more significant emphasis?'

'Did you assume me to be a non-believer?
You shouldn't prejudge anyone,
Based upon their appearance.
Or a book by its cover,
With assumptions to make on its contents.'

'So right you are.
These days,
It is best to believe what people say to mean.
Instead of believing,
They actually mean something else.'

'Hey...
I was once told,
Reading between the lines...
Has more significance,
Than what is written or to hear heard spoken.'

'Such good advice.
Never to leave anyone confused.'

'Huh?'

'Listen to learn with it done,
To witness and observe.
The key to longevity,
Is paying attention.'

'I...uh...
I am learning everyday.
To leave the obvious,
Left where it is.
Without me being curious about it.'

'Pray.
That's all any of us can do!'

'What?'

'Pray.
Geessshhh.
Some of us do more of it than others.'

'I don't believe this!'

'Keep the faith.
And you will never walk alone.'

'God?
If this is Your test.
All I ask is to help me pass it!'
