Let’s go Drinking

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

The joy of your presence fills my heart
Whenever you draw near
Your presence comes; my fear subsides
Because you see me here

Between Kadesh and Bered
Lies a well out in the desert
I often go to drink from it
Because it brings me pleasure

The well is deep; the water pure
It gives me time to think
I think of all the things you’ve done
And take another drink

Beer Lahai Roi is not another craft concoction
And you can’t find it in a pub
Its never sold at auctions

So, when I want to go out drinking
I jump in my car
Because I’m going to the well
And not some dingy bar
