So says the Tree
Things rot, no matter how hard you resist,
In spite of all the plastic, the pattern is not hard to miss
The finest steak oozes a bit of slime
The prettiest flower loses its petals in time
And even as the sun is cooling
Earth is warming, people still dueling
None can withstand the tide of time
In every lifetime, there’s a time to die
Every pretty person can keep in mind
That in the end, we shall see inside
And shine a light on that thing you tried to hide
When it’s time to fade and wither
You still must be able to face a mirror
Look square at that vulnerable core in glee
That’s your soul, that’s what shall be set free.
