Cornered Torment

Natalie Overby 1986 (United States)

I lay awake at night,
Tossing and turning,
To get the thoughts out of my mind.
I lose sleep,
The stress takes over and there's pain,
All through my body.
I can't turn the flashes of moments off,
No matter how much I smoke,
Or sleep aide I take.
I get lost,
Replaying the look on his face,
As he came at me with the blade.
What is this a joke?
I feel like a fool,
Who was tricked by a mindless Jester.
Held the knife to my gut,
Like he was hunting through winter.
Look now Mister,
It's just a piece of paper.
No value, no use,
Just some pent up time,
And some other mixed up situations.
What is really going through your mind?
You got away,
Without an issue,
But now my mind is stuck repeating,
The way you threatened my safety.
The fact, day in and out,
I've stood up,
Before standing down in open ground.
You cornered me,
In my zone.
What do I do,
To get over the torment now?
