The Nature of Female

inside her shell the tortoise hides
a hard exterior muffles the cries
of a sad and oftentimes lonely life
marked by passage, scarred by strife

a She wolf sleeps soundly in her den
alone by choice, for herself to fend
while in her dreams she runs with a pack
with food in her belly and cubs at her back

a large gray whale closes her eyes
resting under starry night skies
before she begins her life's story by song
sharing her memories of days bygone

a beautiful woman touches her face
and emptily stares off into space
while thought roam over pleasures past
when love held her firmly in its grasp
