Love to Death

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

I can fight against the flesh
But not against the blood
Not against his Spirit in me
Rolling like a flood
Sexual attraction can be good until it’s not
Don’t go chasing foreign flesh
Enjoy what you have got
Your wife was given to you
And your husband was as well
Don’t give your heart and body
To somebody formed in hell
If they know you’re married
And give in to your advances
Then you can go have sex with them
But don’t ignore the glances
Your Father watches everything
And listens when you’re praying
So, stop and think; consider well
The words that you are saying
Don’t ask him to give you evil
And make you suffer still
If you sleep with other men
I know you surely will
Put away your lustful ways
And go and love your husband
Then your need is satisfied
So, don’t go chase your cousin
Other men won’t satisfy you
One leads to another
Then when you have had them all
What’s next you whore? Your brother?
Your father knows your every thought
He knows your heart is hard
He knows that you will not respond
Until things get bizarre
Please don’t go chase your evil lusts
No matter how much they call you
Your husband is on the other line
So, answer, let him draw you
